LONDON, 4 August 2012 – Japan failed to add another gold to their judo tally on the last day of competition yesterday, but still dominated the competition by winning six of the 14 events.

Maki Tsukada won silver in the Women’s 78kg yesterday to bring Japan’s final judo tally in London to six gold, three silver and two bronze.

Even though the Japanese judokas did not quite reach the heights of Athens 2004, when they won eight gold, six gold medals is still the second best performance of any nation at an Olympic judo tournament.

Japan hold the top five spots in this ranking – four of which have come at the last four Olympics – showcasing their current domination of world judo.

At these Games, Japan’s gold medals came in the Women’s 48kg, 52kg, 57kg and 63kg categories and the Men’s 90kg and 100kg.
